At Hippo Labs, we’ve always believed in building technology that improves lives. That’s why we’re proud to announce our unique partnership with NHS England as part of the ongoing evolution of the NHS App — one of the most important public-facing digital services in the UK.


In the recently published NHS App roadmap, Hippo Labs was named as a key integration partner helping to deliver next-generation messaging capabilities within the App. This work marks a major step in transforming how patients interact with their care providers, making communication faster, more secure, and more accessible.

Enabling Better Patient Communication via NHS App

The NHS App is rapidly becoming the digital front door to healthcare services in England. From managing appointments to viewing health records and prescriptions, it aims to give people more control over their healthcare experience — while easing pressure on GP surgeries and hospital systems.


A vital part of this transformation is messaging. Working closely with NHS England, Hippo Labs has successfully integrated messaging services into the NHS App, supporting:

  • Secure communication between patients and providers

  • Smarter inbox functionality, including filters and push notification improvements

  • Improved user journeys, especially around feedback, appointment management, and support follow-ups

We’re helping unlock the potential for trusted, two-way communication inside a platform already used by millions.


Building for the NHS — With the NHS

This collaboration reflects a wider shift in how NHS digital services are built: through open, scalable partnerships with technology providers that share the same public mission.

As part of this initiative, Hippo Labs joins a select group of integration partners — including Engage Health Systems, Hero Health, and PathEKS — working to extend what the NHS App can do. This is about more than technology; it’s about co-designing tools that respond to real patient needs, deliver tangible benefits to clinicians, and strengthen the entire healthcare ecosystem.


What’s Next?

The roadmap sets ambitious goals, including:

  • Integrating the NHS App with major EPR systems like Epic

  • Expanding third-party services and support for GP Connect APIs

  • Improving digital access to test results, prescription tracking, and referral pathways

As the NHS App continues to grow in capability and reach, Hippo Labs will keep playing a leading role in building smart, patient-focused solutions that support digital-first care across the UK.
